The 2nd Sun Yat-sen University International Academic Annual Conference on Finance Was Held in Shenzhen
On May 25th and 26th, the 2nd Sun Yat-sen University International Academic Annual Conference on Finance was held in Shenzhen, and the theme was "Theoretical Research on Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance from The International Perspective". This annual conference was co-hosted by Sun Yat-sen University Business School, Sun Yat-sen University Advanced Institute of Finance and University of Geneva's Financial Research Center. Professor Li Guangzhong, Associate Dean of Business School and Executive Associate Dean of Advanced Institute of Finance, and Professor Roni Michaely from University of Geneva, former Associate Editor of the top academic 'Journal of Finance' served as co-chairs of the conference.
Professor Li Guangzhong and Professor Roni Michaely gave speeches at the opening ceremony respectively. Professor Li Guangzhong extended a warm welcome to the guests, he said that, under the joint support of Sun Yat-sen University Business School, Sun Yat-sen University Advanced Institute of Finance and University of Geneva's Financial Research Center, the 2nd Sun Yat-sen University International Academic Annual Conference on Finance will continue the purpose of the 1st conference, which is to build an open and integrated international academic exchange platform for the financial academic exchanges at home and abroad, explore the latest research trends, and guide the financial development of the times. Professor Roni Michaely also expressed his expectation and gratitude for the holding of the second annual conference, and encouraged participants to ask questions freely and exchange research ideas more actively and deeply.
The academic exchange in the conference was carried on in the forms of conference report and group report. The conference invited eight well-known scholars from the financial field at home and abroad to give conference reports, including Professor Qi Chen from Duke University, Professor Philip H. Dybvin from Washington University, Professor Lin Chen from the University of Hong Kong, Professor Xiumin Martin from Washington University, Professor Lin Peng from the City University of New York, Professor Xiaoyun Yu from Indiana University, Associate Professor Roger Loh from Singapore Management University, and Associate Professor Xin Chang from Nanyang Technological University. The conference reports closely followed the academic frontier and focused on hot issues, which had triggered heated discussions among the participating scholars. In the group report, Professor Charlie X. Cai from the University of Liverpool, Assistant Professor Jianfeng Hu from Singapore Management University, Assistant Professor Ma Yujing from the University of International Business and Economics, Professor Thomas Schmid from the University of Hong Kong, Professor Zhang Bohui from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), Professor Zhou Yinggang from Xiamen University and Professor Li Guangzhong presented the results and progress of recent research.
During the two-day conference, scholars exchanged the research ideas in the form of paper reports and discussions, from the international perspective, rooted in the relevant theories of corporate finance, and dig deep into the significance of theoretical research; meanwhile, they paid attention to the latest social development trends in different countries, and studied practical issues from the theoretical perspective. The conference focused on the changes brought by the technology in the information age, the innovation and development of the industry, and tracked the frontier trends of financial research. In the interactive session, the reporter and the audience had a full exchange and discussion, and the atmosphere was great.
It is reported that since 2018, the Sun Yat-sen University International Academic Annual Conference on Finance has been successfully held for two sessions and has achieved good academic influence. It has become another important international academic conference series after the International Symposium on Frontier Management Research held by Sun Yat-sen University Business School. The purpose of the conference is to build a high-level open platform for the financial academia at home and abroad, promote the exchange and cooperation between the academic circles at home and abroad, promote the construction of academic community of financial and related disciplines, and help the research results to be applied in financial reform and development practice.
