Jiangfan LI, born at Taishan, Guangdong Province, China in 1951, PhD of Economics (Xiamen University), is Professor of School of Business in Sun Yat-sen University, Supervisor of PhD student, Director of China Center for Service Sector Research (CCSSR), Sun Yat-sen University, and Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Society of Tertiary Industry.

After he graduated from Department of Politics & History in Guangdong Teachers’ College in 1976, he worked as a teacher in Foshan Teachers’ School. From 1979 to 1982, he studied as a Master student in the Major of Political Economics in South China Normal University, and got his MA degree of Economics in 1982. He was promoted to a lecture (1983), associate professor (1986) and professor (1991) in South China Normal University.

Besides, he was qualified to be the supervisor of Master program in 1987 and has been the Supervisor of PhD program since 1997. He was deputy director and then director of Institute of Economics Research in South China Normal University from 1986 to 2001.

He has been the Academic Leader of Economic item supported by “211 Project” during 1996 to 2001, and the Academic Leader of political economics project supported by Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Higher Education from 1993 to 2001.

He was the member of the Guangdong Provincial Degree Committee, the Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Society of middle-age and young Economists.

He was invited as a senior visiting scholar to further his studies in University of Reading, University of Cambridge in UK from 1989 to 1990, and in Harvard University in USA in 1996.

In April 2001, he changed his job form South China Normal University to Sun Yat-sen University, employed as the Excellent Professor.

He worked as a Visiting Research Fellow at East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore in 2003 and 2005.

From 1980 to 2015, he published 403 papers and 7 books, about 5.8 million words, and got 22 academic awards nationally or provincially. In 1991, he won Sun Yefang Economic Science Award, the highest economic academic award in China, by his monograph Tertiary Industrial Economics. In 1992, he was invited to Beijing by the Secretary-General of State Department, to discuss development stratagem of China’s tertiary industry. And his study was adopted for the Decision of Developing Chinese Tertiary Industry by China government and the State Department. In 1992, he was appraised to be the Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Contributed Expert, Excellent Middle-aged and Young Expert, started to take the Special Allowance from the State Department.

In 1994, he was selected as one of the 12 Excellent Middle-aged and Young Experts in Social Science in Guangdong Province. In 1996, the Excellent Professional of Guangdong Provincial “Thousand-Hundred-Decade Project” in University. In 2004, he was appointed as the PI (Principal Investigator) of Research Innovation Base of Industry and District Development of “985 Project” in Sun Yat-sen University. He was selected as “100 Economists Contributing to New China’s Economy Construction” in 2009.
