lumni Activities - The Inaugural Meeting of the EMBA Alumni Council of Business School, Sun Yat-Sen University Ends Successfully

On the morning of November 26th, The Inaugural Meeting of the EMBA Alumni Council of Business School, Sun Yat-Sen University and the biweekly forum of "The Pillars of a Great Power, China Reinvents Itself" were held at the Shanheng Hall of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University. More than 70 people attended the meeting, including Wang Fan - dean, Qi Xiaoping - secretary of the CPC Party Committee, Liu Jingyan - associate dean of Business School, member and vice president of the EMBA Alumni Council, etc. The meeting was presided over by Wang Yuanhuai - director of the EMBA Education Center.

The meeting reviewed and approved the management methods of the EMBA Alumni Council of Business School and the member list of the EMBA Alumni Council. Professor Liu Jingyan - associate dean of Business School, was elected as president, Zeng Yuchang - EMBA alumnus enrolled in 2002, was elected as executive president, and Dr. Wang Yuanhuai - director of the EMBA Education Center of Business School, was elected secretary general. The letters of appointment to the Alumni Council were presented at the meeting.

On behalf of the school and the Alumni Council of the school, Qi Xiaoping - secretary of the CPC Party Committee of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University, expressed his congratulations on the establishment of the EMBA Alumni Council. Secretary Qi first reviewed the previous work of various EMBA alumni of Business School, and he personally believed that there were three characteristics: first, kindness as the essential; second, practice as the basis; and third, affection as the root. He particularly thanked the EMBA alumni for their selfless support and assistance in talent cultivation, scientific research and social service over the years. He believed that the newly established EMBA Alumni Council of Business School would be a non-profit organization that aims to serve alumni and support the career development of alumni. At the same time, the Alumni Council should focus on strengthening the ties between alumni at home and abroad as well as between alumni and the mother school of the Alma mater, to enhance friendship, strengthen unity, enhance the cohesion of the mother school of the Alma mater, encourage the alumni to carry forward the fine traditions of the mother school of the Alma mater, and jointly contribute to the development of the mother school of the Alma mater. He believed that the EMBA Alumni Council of Business School which's affiliated to the Alumni Council of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University, should accept the operational guidance and supervision of Business School and Alumni Council of Business School, and abide by the relevant rules and regulations of the Business School, without legal personality. He's full of expectations for the newly established EMBA Alumni Council. First, to strengthen the team building. He hopes that the council will give full play to every alumnus' initiative, to participate in the work of the Alumni Council. Second, to strengthen the system construction. He hopes that the council will build and revitalize itself in accordance with the principles advocated by the school "with basis, process, record and node". Third, to strengthen the cultural construction, and vigorously advocate "respect for people, self-awareness of rules and reverence for academics", so as to internalize in mind and externalize in practice. Finally, I hope that alumni will reply on the platform of Alumni Council to promote the interaction and exchange between alumni and between alumni and Alma mater, to promote the healthy development of alumni enterprises. He thanked all the alumni present for their efforts in the establishment of the EMBA Alumni Council, and hope that the Alumni Council members would be enthusiastic about the Alumni Council affairs, participate in alumni activities, concern for the development of the mother school of the Alma mater, so as to have closer connections between the mother school of the Alma mater and the alumni emotionally and professionally.

Liu Jingyan - associate dean said that she felt the heavy responsibility after being elected president of the EMBA Alumni Council. As president, she hopes the EMBA alumni of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University are able to cultivate charisma and eager to serve their country, and strive to surpass mediocrity. As an alumnus, it is very important to find an organization. The EMBA Alumni Council is an exchange platform set up by Business School for the EMBA alumni. With this platform, I hope that we can help each other and promote the common development of individuals, school and university.

Alumni Zeng Yuchang enrolled in 2002 was elected executive president of the EMBA Alumni Council and gave a speech. Firstly, he expressed his deep feelings for Sun Yat-sen University by saying "High as Baiyun Mountain, long as Pearl River". Secondly, he reviewed that the school was among the first batch of schools with EMBA program approved by the Ministry of Education in 2002, and he was lucky to be a student of the first EMBA class. He and his classmates benefited a lot from the professor's earnest teachings and the way classmates interacted and communicated with each other in the EMBA class of Business School. At present, a number of outstanding entrepreneurs have grown up among the EMBA alumni enrolled in 2002, like Song Guangju, Yang Haizhou, Yuan Zhimin and Xue Hua, etc. Zeng Yuchang - executive president, thanked the school for its cultivation and the alumni for their trust. Under the leadership of the school and the support of the alumni, he would do a good job for the alumni in a prudent and pragmatic way and promote the integration of the alumni of all grades.

Finally, dean Wang Fan made a summary speech for the inaugural meeting. First, he introduced the current development status and achievements of the school to the alumni. He used the new era, new thinking and new journey to describe the current an future development plans of the school. The development of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University has reached an unprecedented height and we could say that it has entered a "new era". In September, the Business Administration discipline of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University got on the list of world-class universities and first-class discipline (referred to as "Double First-Class”). Secondly, the development of the school keeps abreast of the development of the times, actively serves the national development strategies, strives for the national economic development, with the "new thinking" to guide the development of various tasks. He pointed out that our alumni have had many wonderful activities, but they are in a state of scattered "nodes". I hope the EMBA Alumni Associations will give full play to the links between the alumni and the school under the joint efforts of the members of the Alumni Council. We should organize more interaction activities between alumni across grades and across regions, fully link up the various "nodes", and build the Alumni Council into an active and service-oriented organization that widely connects alumni. Finally, he said affectionately that "The success of the school is the success of every alumnus, and the success of the alumnus is the greatest success of the school".

The Inaugural Meeting of the EMBA Alumni Council came to an end in the school song, "High as Baiyun Mountain, long as Pearl River, tall as my university stands, bright as a star of the country." inspiring the emotional resonance of the alumni of their Alma mater, and the EMBA alumni work will embark on a new journey.
