The MBA 20th Anniversary Series of Activities of Business School Were Grandly Held - To Review and Summarize the Past 20 Years, and Continue A New Chapter of Glory
20 years of hard work regardless of obstacles and difficulties, 20 years of diligent cultivation and great reward. On December 1st, 2018, The MBA 20th Anniversary Series of Activities of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University were grandly held. The 20th Anniversary celebration activities included: reports of "The Development of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University" and "The Teaching Reform, Social Responsibilities And Stories of Outstanding Alumni of MBA 20th Anniversary of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University”, keynote speech of "Business Civilization and Entrepreneurship", entrepreneur salon, and "Pursue Dreams with Ingenuity And Create Brilliance Together" - Awards Ceremony of the Outstanding Alumni of MBA 20th Anniversary of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University.
On the day of the event, professor Wang Fan, dean of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University, delivered a speech and made a report on the development of the school. First of all, dean Wang expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the distinguished guests, leaders, alumni, faculties and students. And then, dean Wang introduced the latest development and achievements of the school. Dean Wang pointed out that the MBA program of Business School, Sun Yat-sun University was listed as the World's Top 100 MBA programs by Economist for three consecutive years, ranked the 69th this year globally, and the 3rd in Asia area, being the only business school in mainland China on the list. From 2011 to 2018, the MBA program of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University ranked the top 3 in the Most Influential MBA of China by World Entrepreneur magazine and retained its position for eight consecutive years. In 2017, Business Administration discipline of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University was selected into the list of "Double-First Class" Construction Discipline by the Ministry of Education, won the "A+" rating in the forth round of national discipline evaluation, ranked the top 1% in the Best Discipline of China by Shanghai Ranking, being the only discipline among all universities in Guangdong Province that ranked the top 1%. Dean Wang said that "operation accreditations", "quality improvement" and "competitive advantages" are the three key elements for the success of business school. Business School, Sun Yat-sen University will continue to adhere to the guidance of these three core elements in the future construction, continuously improve the academic level of management, enhance the academic influence, and commit to the development and construction of a leading domestic and first-class international business school.
Yao Hailin - Director of MBA Education Center of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University released the report of "The Teaching Reform, Social Responsibilities And Stories of Outstanding Alumni of MBA 20th Anniversary of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University”. Director Yao pointed out that the report mainly recorded some representative programs and practices in the MBA teaching reform over the past 20 years through systematic review, with the main points of paperless interviews, competitive bidding systems for course selection, full lifecycle customer relationship management systems, management consulting projects, international management consulting projects, overseas campus, MBA-CXO training system reforms, etc. Director Yao said that the outstanding achievements of MBA program of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University has achieved so far is inseparable from the long-term unremitting efforts in discipline construction, teaching reform and innovation, teaching security and service quality improvement. And then, director Yao released the report of "Interview with Outstanding Alumni", which told the struggle stories of the 50+ outstanding alumni of all previous MBAs to reveal the students' strength given by the Business School's culture. In the report of "Social Responsibility Value", director Yao sorted out many public welfare measures of MBA education of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University, highlighting the training mission of "Practice Social Responsibility" of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University.
Dr. Qin Shuo, the humanities financial observer, founder of Chin@Moments and co-director of China Business Civilization Research Center, gave a speech on the theme of "Commercial Civilization and Entrepreneurship". Dr. Qin Shuo first analyzed and interpreted "What is commercial civilization" from two perspectives: The macro-measurement of commercial civilization and the micro-measurement of commercial activities. He also pointed out that "The current high-quality development, orderly market economy, oriented social culture, and penetrating financial management, all raise up an urgent demand for the exploration of commercial civilization". And then, Dr. Qin Shuo analyzed the "four markets" currently existing in China's economy to lead to the thinking of "What is entrepreneur and entrepreneurship", and elaborated on the myth of entrepreneurship, the ten international principles of commercial civilization, the OECD corporate governance guidelines, the basis of enterprise social value, and the basis of Chinese enterprises social value and so on. Dr Qin Shuo said that at present China's economy still faces some problems, but "production innovation and value creation" is still the foundation of economic construction. We should "Do right things, do things right", further strengthen technological innovation, and use the successful cases such as Alibaba, MI, Jushi, etc. for reference, to make these questions "Is there a future? Is there any value innovation? Is there any efficiency improvement?" become the eternal themes of entrepreneur thinking.
Presided over by professor Fu Hui - doctoral supervisor of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University, 4 distinguished guests which are Li Shaohua - vice president of Ali Group, Shi Shaobin - vice general manager of China Minsheng Investment Health Industry Co., Ltd., Shu Zhaoping - general manager of China Tower Corporation Limited Guangdong Branch, and Yuan Zhiming - president of Shenzhen Glamour Technology Co., Ltd. came on the stage and joined the entrepreneur salon. The distinguished guests had differentiation discussion about the forms of entrepreneurship and business culture, based on the development characteristics of their own fields and their own working practice background.
Regarding the question "What qualities should the most ideal entrepreneur possess", five distinguished guests expressed different views. Alumni Shi Shaobin said that the four elements of "gratitude, responsibility, passion and wisdom" are crucial to becoming the most ideal entrepreneur. Alumni Li Shaohua said that entrepreneurs should devote themselves to the innovation and creation of customer value. Alumni Shu Zhaoping pointed out that the most ideal entrepreneur is the one that sticks to the standard belief that "the needs of customers are the meaning of my existence". Alumni Yuan Zhiming said that "When he organizes a group of capable people with his great vision to realize his dream, which is in line with the core values, can he be regarded as the most ideal entrepreneur." Dr. Qin Shuo who held different views from the other four guests, explained that "The most ideal entrepreneur should be an expert in running the enterprise that takes the enterprise as his home, a talent with comprehensive abilities, and able to integrate various qualities."
In the evening, the "Pursue Dreams with Ingenuity And Create Brilliance Together" - Awards Ceremony of the Outstanding Alumni of MBA 20th Anniversary of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University was held, and Qi Xiaoping - secretary of Party Committee of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University made a speech. Secretary Qi pointed out that the effectiveness of the school's development is ultimately measured by the overall quality of its graduates and their contribution to society. Graduated alumni is an important yardstick for the school's performance. The MBA program of Business School, Sun Yat-sen University started in 1996, and the first batch of students were enrolled in 1998. It has gone through the glorious course of twenty years. Over the past 20 years, the MBA program of the Business School has been based on the local and facing the world, with the missions of enriching our students by providing a flourishing learning environment and integrating Chinese and Western management wisdom, grounded in integrity, innovation and social responsibility, training management talents for business circle, taking root in China to run education, and cultivated a large number of pillars of society with “integrity of ability and morality, leader traits and family-country”. After graduation, tens of thousands of students went to work, created wealth for the country, benefited the people, became a blessing of society and family, made outstanding contributions to society and gained high reputation from society, and create brilliance together with the faculties and students of the Business School.
Secretary Qi pointed out that the achievements of the Business School cannot be achieved without the joint efforts of the leaders of university, all previous leading groups of the school, generations of faculties and students, and most importantly the great support of all of you here. The award ceremony of the school is to thank the leaders, alumni, and all walks of life who have supported the development of the school for a long time, and thank the generations of faculties and students who have strived for it! To hold the award ceremony, it is more important to gather people's heart, wisdom and talents, so as to seek more support and help for the future development of the school.
Finally, secretary Qi pointed out that, it is the indispensable historical mission of Business School people to pursue excellence and become first-level. We must seize this important opportunity, based on the golden period of business studies development, benchmark school on new spirit and new requirement, recognize the new position, new pattern and new ideas, and focus on development. The way before us is quite challenging but also full of chances, we need to forget the achievements we made and work hard from now again. We must stick to the high position of "looking far ahead and aiming high without fear of clouds blocking our vision", the composure of "without pleasing and trying to get people's praises", and the determination of "not stopping until we reach our goal", with concerted efforts, strive for the goal of first-class!
Upon the recommendation of the alumni, the school selected 98 outstanding alumni and presented 9 categories of awards in recognition of their outstanding achievements in various fields.
The shows of evening party were wonderful. The faculties and students put on performances to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MBA program.
The scene was full of warmth, memories, joy and tears. The MBA 20th Anniversary Series of Activities ended in a round of applauses and warm atmosphere.
