SYSBS was founded through the generous support of several foundations, most notably, Hong Kong Ho's Education Foundation, Fok Ying Tung Foundation, Peihua Education Foundation. Therein, SYSBS leaders are required to prepare and present annual management and accountability reports to our board members, discuss current issues, foundation-related budget and its use, and brainstorm upcoming and future directions and goals for strategic and operational alignment.

Dr. Ho Sin-Hang who established Hang Seng Bank in Hong Kong in 1933 was an out-standing industrialist, famous patriot and philanthropist of Hong Kong. As the president of Hang Seng Bank (1933-1983), Dr. Ho Sin-hang made great contributions to develop the bank into a world-class financial institution and one of Hong Kong’s largest listed companies in terms of market capitalization. Dr. Ho Sin-Hang was a well-known businessman for his pioneering and innovative spirit. He was also a respectable patriot for devoting himself to the national rejuvenation, making huge donations to the education development. In 1985 Dr. Ho Sin-Hang donated HK$ 20,000,000.00 to found Ho’s Education Foundation, which contributed a lot to the establishment of the Business School, Sun Yat-Sen University.

Ho’s Education Foundation aims to train up qualified managerial and administrative personnel to meet the development of China. The committee members, chairman and secretary all work voluntarily for the foundation and meet at least once each year according to the constitutions of the foundation.

Ever since its foundation, Ho’s Education Foundation has made great efforts to help and support the development of our school. A huge sum of donation has been made for the school’s infrastructure, facilities, library construction and the faculty’s dormitory construction, greatly improving teaching and living conditions for the staff of our school. Ho’s Education Foundation also provided funds for a group of teachers and students to go abroad for further study, which promoted our school’s international academic exchanges. To help the students with financial difficulties as well as support faculties and students exchange programs, Ho’s Education Foundation has set up some specific scholarships and awards such as Ho’s Scholarship, Grant for Excellent Undergraduates Exchange Program, Awards for Excellent Teachers and Administrators, and a special fund for the purchase of foreign periodicals.

Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation

Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation

In 1982, an early year in China’s reform and opening up, the Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation, a non-profit-making civic organization, was established. Its motto is “nurture ourselves, nurture others”. The Foundation was established by 13 prominent Hong Kong figures from industrial, business and professional field, including Mr. Lee Shau Kee, Mr. Wong Kwun Cheng, Mr. Fok Ying Tung and many others. Mr. Ho Ming Si serves as consultant for the foundation.

Since its establishment, the Foundation has been dedicated to the cultivation and training of talented people for the motherland’s reform and opening up as well as for her modernization. The Foundation has devoted considerable resources to emphasis on ethnic minorities in Western areas. The Foundation has trained nearly ten thousand cadres in these type of areas so far. Cooperating with United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee, the foundation has carried out the program “Hotel management training courses for ethnic minority area cadres” for over a decade, making a great contribution to the economic and social development in minority areas. This program is organized by SYSBS. For this reason, SYSBS was honored with the title “national model unit in ethnic unity and progress” by the State Council in 1994.

The Foundation has been offering assistance and support, from every aspect, for the development of SYSBS since the early stage of its foundation. Since its foundation, the Foundation has supported the cultivation of faculty and management talents in SYSBS by providing the school 0.32 million HK dollars with quotas for school faculties to receive training and with financial grants. Mr. Fok Ying Tung, one of the major founders of the Foundation, donated 4.8 million HK dollars in 1987 for the renovation of hotel management training center in our school and for the purchase of furniture and equipment in the center. Moreover, he paid visits to our school in person in 1988, 1998 and 2002. Additionally, Mr. Fok Chun Wan, Foundation’s Standing Chairman, donated another 0.68 HK dollars, used for the renovation of a language laboratory and for the purchase of two sets of equipment in the laboratory in 1985 and 2002.
